Writers today are often tasked with shooting photos while on assignment, either with a professional-grade camera or, more often than not, with their phone. And even when a professional photographer is on hand, it can be tricky knowing exactly what to say. How do you best clue them in on the story and what’s happening without coming on too strong?
We’re here to help. Join SPJ Georgia for “Best Case/Worst Case: Photography Tips & Tricks for Writers” on Thursday, Jan. 18 at 7:30 p.m. at Indigo Yoga (2033 Hosea L Williams Dr. NE Suite A, Atlanta, GA 30317).
Freelance photojournalist Kevin D. Liles will teach attendees the best ways to go about working with your assigned photographer (Best Case) or with that trusty smartphone (Worst Case).
Liles should know. He shoots for publications like The Atlantic,The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post and The New York Times. Since many stories require a simple portrait shot of the main subject, Liles will also give tips on how to take a compelling portrait photo with a smartphone. Then, attendees will practice taking photos of each other (so be sure to dress for success).
This event is absolutely free for SPJ Georgia members, who can RSVP by sending an email to SPJGeorgia@Gmail.com with “Best Case/Worst Case” in the subject line. For non-members the cost is just $20 and you can register by purchasing a ticket through Eventbrite.
We hope to see everyone at Indigo Yoga on the 18th. Space is limited so please register ASAP.
