Journalists spend a lot of time sitting in front of desks. Do you find yourself hunched over for hours on end as you pound out copy or work with audio and video? When you finally get up you may find that your neck, back and other body parts ache, and you’re not alone.
Want to learn some tricks and techniques to ease the aches and sharpen your mental game? Join SPJ Georgia Saturday, Nov. 10, 12:30 p.m. at Indigo Yoga (2033 Hosea L. Williams Dr. NE, Atlanta) for a useful seminar covering stretching, light exercise, meditation and mindfulness.
Exercise physiologist, yoga instructor and certified public health educator Avril Loy James will talk about the dangers of prolonged sitting. She’ll then demonstrate stretches, light exercises and meditation techniques designed to help you ease stress and get focused.
This isn’t power yoga, just a practical approach to help us hardworking journalists give our bodies and minds some breathing room. No need to wear gym clothes (unless you’d just really like to), simply come prepared to learn and promote a healthy lifestyle.
This event is free for SPJ Georgia members, who can register by simply dropping an email to SPJGeorgia@Gmail.com saying you’d like to attend. For non-members, the cost is $20 and tickets can be purchased through Eventbrite.
